Devotion 8/31, Come Holy Spirit!

What a wretched man I am! Who will rescue me from this body of death? Thanks be to God — through Jesus Christ our Lord!
Romans 7:24-25
Paul is acknowledging that on his own there is no righteousness found in him no matter how hard he tries, he knows the corruptness of mankind and the old nature. One preacher put this as follows; “It is as if Paul has a decomposing body strapped to his back.” The body of course being the old nature (sin).
But the precious realization that follows is priceless! “Thanks be to God, who delivers me through Jesus Christ our Lord!” Can’t you just feel his audible relief and thankfulness? Oh yes, Jesus Christ is our Deliverer. When He came and died on that cross some 2000 years ago and rose from the dead, He broke the grip of sin, death, and hell by shedding His blood for the atonement of our sins (Acts 2:24). Now all those who have placed their faith in Christ stand clean before God, no sins against us can stand because of the work of Christ at the cross!
That same power of Christ is in each and every believer in Him today (1Corinthians 3:16). We do not have to live our lives in slavery to our old sinful nature for we have the new nature in us which is led by the indwelling Holy Spirit (Romans 8:2).
Thank you Lord Jesus, for loving me and rescuing me from sin! You are my Deliverer. Help me to tap into Your power that is in me by your Holy Spirit that I may bring honor and glory to You in what I say and what I do, all the days of my life, Amen!

About Mike & Marcia

I started this journey trying to help someone that had reached out during some troubled times they were dealing with personally.
Turns out in the process I had to deal with my own anger and disappointment with the situation. I prayed for guidance which lead me to giving it up to Christ. It helped me help them writing a daily devotional and in the process I realized my own devotions were lacking. It's now my daily routine. I pray if nothing else it helps to focus on our God of grace if only for a moment for everyone that read them.
I do take requests and any comments.
