Devotion 9/8, Listen and He will Fill Your Cup
And there was a cloud that overshadowed them: and a voice came out of the cloud, saying, This is my beloved Son: hear him. Mark 9:7
After stating that Jesus is His Son, God goes on to say that He loves Jesus and that He is well pleased with Him. This tells us that we are to model our lives after Christ. We never have to wonder what pleases God, Jesus does. And if we follow Christ and live as He did on this earth, in obedience to God, God is well pleased with us, too!
We must choose to listen to Christ. When we read the Bible we are reading the words of God and there should be no doubt whatsoever about that. Scripture is God breathed
(2 Timothy 3:16), and we are to listen to and obey what it says. As God’s children our lives cannot be satisfying, peaceful, or joyful if we are living in disobedience to God’s Word. We have the Holy Spirit within us which is leading us to follow Christ and obey the Word of God, but if we choose to ignore the Spirit and live in disobedience to God, there will be conviction in our hearts making us unhappy and discontented until we come back to God in repentance of our sin.
Almighty God, help me hear the voice of Jesus above the noise of agenda driven politicians, influencers, and self-appointed experts. I want to follow Jesus and obey him in all things, no matter what anyone else may choose to do or to whom they entrust their hearts. The only “truths” are found in your Son, the “Way” and in your Word. In Jesus’ name, I pray. Amen.
