Devotion 9/30, He Will Make You A New Creation
For if you live according to the sinful nature, you will die; but if by the Spirit you put to death the misdeeds of the body, you will live, because those who are led by the Spirit of God are children of God. Romans 8:13-14
Paul is giving us what are characteristics of true believers in Christ. A person who is saved and therefore has the Holy Spirit inside them will live a life that is purposed and centered on obedience to God. That is why it says in vs.14 that those who are led by the Spirit of God are children of God. When a person accepts Christ as Savior, the Holy Spirit inside causes us to desire to live for God and to obey His Word in our lives, yes, we will still sin at times, but our overall desire is to please our Father in heaven. Now when we sin there is a conviction that comes about in our hearts and we do as 1 John 1:9 says and confess the sin to God so that our fellowship with Him is restored.
Just as Jesus said in Matthew 7:21:21… “Not everyone who says ‘Lord, Lord,’ will enter the kingdom of heaven, but only the one who does the will of my Father who is in heaven.”
A true child of God will desire to do God’s will and please Him with their lives, if this is never the case with an individual then salvation has more than likely not truly occurred in them.
I have heard it said, “If your faith has not changed you, it probably has not saved you.” True trust in Christ brings about a change in people:
2 Corinthians 5:17, Therefore if anyone is in Christ, the new creation has come; The old has gone, the new is here!
Thank You Father for sending Jesus to shed His pure and innocent blood for the forgiveness of my sins. Help me Father to live my life purposed for You and You alone! I pray that if there is anyone reading this today that has not accepted Christ as Lord and Savior they would do so now and become Your child and by doing so, spend eternity with You in heaven. I give You all praise, honor, and glory this day, Amen!
