Devotion 2/19, Glorify Thy Name, Observe His Commands

observe the Lord’s commands and decrees that I am giving you today for your own good . . .
Deuteronomy 10:13
We don’t always want to do what God says is good for us. It can be difficult to engage in some things that God asks us to do, but they are in our best interest. Jesus calls us to love our enemies and pray for those who persecute us (Matthew 5:44). We are called to put up with one another and forgive if we have a grievance with someone (Colossians 3:13). We put off the old self and put on the new self to be like the Lord in true righteousness and holiness (Ephesians 4:22-24). These commands can be really complicated.
God’s Word is more than a list of rules. We believe what God asks of us in his Word. We don’t have to face these complicated teachings on our own. We have the help of the Holy Spirit, the Word of God, and the community of God’s people, our “family of faith”. God’s love and example motivate us to be victorious, even when that can be difficult!
Righteous God, help me always to do what is right, that I may glorify you in all I say and do. Purify my heart, Lord, that your love may motivate me to be victorious. In Jesus, Amen.

About Mike & Marcia

I started this journey trying to help someone that had reached out during some troubled times they were dealing with personally.
Turns out in the process I had to deal with my own anger and disappointment with the situation. I prayed for guidance which lead me to giving it up to Christ. It helped me help them writing a daily devotional and in the process I realized my own devotions were lacking. It's now my daily routine. I pray if nothing else it helps to focus on our God of grace if only for a moment for everyone that read them.
I do take requests and any comments.
